A good haircut matters. So does listening to the person wearing it, respecting their time and preparing your station for the next appointment.
I’ve been cutting hair since 2005. Clients have noticed that I like to keep my station clean. That matters to me because professionalism includes what happens between haircuts.
What happens between clients
After a haircut, I sweep up and air blast loose hair from the chair and surrounding area. For my combs, I use air and a stiff cleaning brush to remove loose hair before they go into the BARBICIDE jar.
My station supplies include Andis Cool Care Plus, BARBICIDE concentrate and a BARBICIDE disinfecting jar.
The product instructions matter here. Removing hair is part of preparation; proper cleaning, dilution and the full required contact time are essential to disinfection. A quick dip should never be confused with completing that process.
I also use Andis Blade Care Plus for blade maintenance. Blade care and disinfection serve different purposes, so it’s important to follow the directions for each product.
A fresh neck strip, every client
Every client gets a new Sanek neck strip. It’s a small detail, but preparing for the next person should be part of the routine.
I also like wearing gloves while I work. Gloves come with their own responsibility: change them when needed and keep up with hand hygiene.
Professionalism goes beyond the tools
Nobody books a haircut to compete with their barber’s phone for attention.
Listen to what the client wants. Have the conversation before cutting. Keep the area cared for, and give the person in the chair your attention.
Those are the details I want GOT BARBER? to stand for. The finished haircut is what people see. The way you treat them is part of what they remember.
